Rev Linda Pollock, the minister of Possilpark Parish Church in Glasgow, started a petition this year to try and persuade the UK Government not to deport the Bakhsh family to Pakistan. The family (Maqsood and Parveen, and sons Somer, 15, and Areeb, 13) fled Pakistan, where Christians are persecuted, in 2012 and have spent the last six years seeking sanctuary in Glasgow.
Together, the Bakhsh family have written a prayer for Advent with their minister Rev Linda Pollock.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that we are able to celebrate and express our Faith in Christ Jesus openly in this country.
Today, we especially remember your beloved children who are robbed of this freedom around the world and discriminated against because of their love for You.
Hear our prayer for the governments of the world who permit discrimination at every level of life against Your people.
Soften the hardened hearts of extremists and, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, strengthen Your children to stand firmly in Christ.
Thank You for walking with us and holding us close during our difficult times, and may we grow in love and grace each new day, for the sake of Your Son, our Lord, Jesus.
