Rev Dr David Coulter is retiring as Chaplain General to Her Majesty's Land Forces during this season of Advent. Dr Coulter began his religious journey with the Church of Scotland where he became ordained as a minister, before returning to the British Army as a Chaplain. The Presentation of Colours (pictured below) was Dr Coulter's last official engagement before he retires after four years in the position. He will be inducted as minister of St Andrew's in the Grange, Guernsey, in early 2019.
To mark his retirement, he has written an Advent prayer on the theme of peace.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”
Christ, through whom all things were made,
May all strive for peace
Christ, exalted and adored in the highs and lows of life
May all look for peace
Christ, protector of the Armed Forces
May all work for peace
Christ, succour of the wounded and the refugee
May all find peace
Christ, ever present with the poor and the oppressed
May all know peace
Christ, present where two or three are gathered
May all feel at peace
Christ, with us at our beginning and at our end
May all rest in peace
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world into the way of justice and truth, and establish among them that peace which is the fruit of righteousness, that they may become the kingdom of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.
